Inter take the lead in race for Marcus Thuram

Inter have reportedly hijacked Milan’s move for French striker Marcus Thuram and are close to agreeing a move for the free agent. The Nerazzurri were initially linked with Thuram last year when Italian media claimed that they were in discussions to secure the 25-year-old with a pre-contract agreement in January 2023.

Milan had since overtaken Inter after holding talks with the players agents, with reports this week claiming a deal was just a step away from being complete.

Sky Sport Italia claim that the transfer has taken another twist, with the Nerazzurri now back in the lead and very close to securing the young strikers’ signature:

“Inter presented a very important offer, between €5- 5.5 million , thanks to the ‘Decreto Crescita’ (Italian growth Decree), and the guarantee to place the player at the centre of the Nerazzurri project (as Milan had done). The player has just informed Milan in these minutes of his decision not to sign for the Rossoneri.

There is now great confidence at Inter to have Thuram’s definitive yes, with whom there is a verbal agreement. The Nerazzurri have taken advantage of the opportunity, as the figures for commissions and signing bonuses are more affordable than the exorbitant demands of a few months ago.”
