Julian Nagelsmann is Paris Saint-Germain‘s top choice to replace Christophe Galtier and negotiations are at an advanced stage, according L’Equipe on Sunday.
The dialogue between the two parties has been going on for several weeks and a deal is said to be close.
In addition, Nagelsmann would be accompanied by former French footballer Thierry Henry as his assistant. The German coach, who has enjoyed a stellar career at the age of 35, was in charge of Bayern Munich between 2021 and last March, winning a Bundesliga title.
Prior to that, he had broken the record as the youngest coach in Bundesliga history when he took charge of Hoffenheim in 2016, after which he also spent time in charge of RB Leipzig.
Other names have also been floated to replace Galtier, who arrived at the start of the season but failed to win over either the board or the Parisian fans – even with the league title this season.
At the end of May, Le Parisien, which is very close to PSG, tipped Luis Enrique as the favourite to take the role.
Jose Mourinho, currently at the helm of Roma, who recently lost the Europa League final to Sevilla, was also in the running, but the French sporting press claimed that he was not too keen on taking over at PSG.
Former PSG player Thiago Motta, who has had a great season at Bologna, and Marcelo Gallardo were also said to be shortlisted
