Juventus have made Leandro Paredes’ (28) departure official. The Argentine will return to parent club Paris Saint-Germain, where his future remains unclear.
“Thank you Leandro,” read Juventus’s message to their now-former midfielder on Friday. Paredes had been on loan at the Serie A club since the beginning of the season in a deal which included an option to make the move permanent for €22m. However, despite the wishes of the player, who had publically expressed a desire to remain in Italy, Paredes will now return to PSG.
Paredes, who won the World Cup with Argentina during the season, had an injury-hit campaign, limiting him to just 14 starts for the club, yielding a goal and an assist. It is unclear what the future holds for Paredes, who returns to a club that will likely soon announce the arrival of Luis Enrique as their new manager.
The composition of PSG’s midfield is also drastically different. The club integrated Renato Sanches, Carlos Soler, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz into the midfield last summer, whilst Manuel Ugarte is set to join this summer. It may be difficult for Paredes, who had been deemed surplus to requirements, to squeeze his way back into Les Parisiens’ plans.
