A letter from Kylian Mbappe addressed to the PSG offices ended up in the newspaper L’quipe. A document that, coincidentally or not, reopened a chapter that seemed closed until June 2024: the long-awaited transfer of the PSG forward to Real Madrid. The document that surfaced in the media on Monday night, in which the Frenchman informed the club that he would not renew his contract, has reopened the deck. It was a hectic day in which the parties sat at the table amid conflicting messages, especially between the player and PSG, with Madrid still not showing their cards. The saga seems inevitable for the third consecutive summer.
PSG makes the first move in the game
PSG made their position clear early in the morning. As revealed by MARCA, the leaked letter did not sit well, and club sources confirmed that if the player wants to leave, he will not be free to do so. The club considers the letter to be a mere pressure tactic and unnecessary, and they were particularly displeased that it ended up in the media because if he does not communicate his intention to extend until 2025 before July 31st, the contract automatically expires in June 2024.
It seems that at Parc des Princes, they are beginning to accept that it is time for a complete turnaround in the project, tired of their star’s comings and goings regarding his future. The club is working on a project centered around Mbapp, but they insist that in the new strategy, no one is above the club, as seen with the departures of Messi or Ramos and the firm determination to find a destination for Neymar.
“Mbapp’s move surprises Madrid”
PSG insists that if he does not want to renew, he will not leave for free, and MARCA can confirm that despite the currently strained relations between Madrid and PSG, there is no veto for anyone. In Paris, they know that a good sale would offset Mbapp’s initial salary expense, and they will not hold anyone against their will. It should be noted that two years ago, with one year left on his contract, Madrid offered 200 million. It is expected that Paris will not reject a good offer in this new context.

Throughout the morning, Mbapp’s entourage is forced to issue a statement lamenting the leaked letter “with the sole purpose of damaging his image.” They reveal that in July 2022, two months after renewing, he orally informed the club that he would not renew his contract and that the only thing he did two weeks ago was to announce that he would send a letter to the club to remind them that this was still his decision. Contrary to the club’s version, he also states that an extension was never discussed.
Another denial
The day does not end with this statement. Le Parisien reveals that Mbapp‘s desire is to leave for Real Madrid this summer. According to the French media, Benzema’s departure has convinced him. “Lies. Growing lies. I have already said that I will continue next season at PSG, where I am very happy,” Kylian responds on his social media.
