Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico (29) is able to communicate with his family and has regained parts of his memory, according to his wife Alba Silva.
On May 28th, the former Sevilla goalkeeper suffered a serious horse-riding incident, leaving him in a coma for three weeks, bar a few hours during which the Spaniard was taken out of and then put back into a coma. On June 16th, Silva announced that her husband had regained consciousness. Rico is being treated in the intensive care unit at Sevilla’s Virgen del Rocío Hospital.
Whilst there are no longer regular updates from the hospital, as was the case during the weeks preceding the incident, on Monday, Silva offered the latest piece of good news regarding Rico’s improving health situation. “Sergio is communicating“, Silva told L’Equipe. “He calls us by our names and he perfectly knows who we are, his memory is working great.” Silva says that it is now up to the doctors to release the PSG goalkeeper from the ICU. Silva believes that her husband does not remember yet the circumstances of his horse-riding incident. “We’ll need to wait for him to really express himself. We’re just trying, for now, to make him feel good and at ease.“
